Do you want to know more about, or extend your understanding of, the Christian faith.  an ‘Alpha’ Course  provides just such an opportunity. If you’d like to know more about ‘Alpha’, read on!

Q. What is ‘Alpha’?

A. ‘Alpha’ is a 15-session (over 10 weeks) practical introduction to the Christian faith developed at Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB). It has been running for over 20 years. 10,000 ‘Alpha’ courses are now running in 77 countries.

Q. Who is it aimed at?

A. It’s aimed at people with a desire to know more about and have an understanding of the basic principles of the Christian faith, presented in a relaxed and informal setting. It is designed to be as attractive as possible to the person who ‘walked in off the street’.

Q. What format do they follow?

A. A team leader hosts the group and gives a talk on a subject central to the Christian faith. The group then discusses and develops the issues involved. No question is too trivial, threatening or illogical and each is addressed courteously and thoughtfully.

Q. What sort of subjects does it cover?

A. The talks address such questions as: ‘Who is Jesus?’; ‘How and why do I pray?’ and ‘How does God guide us?’. The syllabus for the course is contained in Nicky Gumbel’s book, ‘Questions of Life’.

Q. When are the courses held?

A. Usually in the evening in groups of up to 12 people.

Q. What have others thought of ‘Alpha’?

A. ‘An excellent form of teaching for those with doubts or uncertainties’. ‘Quite the most exciting thing I have done in over 40 years as a Christian.’ ‘It is wonderful to learn that Christianity is not about rules but relationships, not a philosophy but a fantastic person and that it does relate to a modern lifestyle in the 21st Century’.
